Award success at Diabetes UK Conference
19th May 2015
Scotland gained national recognition at Diabetes UK Professional Conference held in March at London’s Excel arena collecting two prestigious awards.
The Primary Care Award for innovation in service delivery within primary care was collected by Scottish Diabetes Research Network (SDRN) Manager, Shona Brearley, for work in engaging GP practices to host a diabetes research nurse and conduct clinical trials.
This initiative now has 14 registered GP practices across 2 Scottish Health Boards, with more than 20 GPs completing Good Clinical Practice training, and future plan to incorporate more Health board regions. Patient feedback from the initiative has been excellent - several patients commented that they felt empowered to deal with their diabetes and clinical results show that patients on the studies are both improving their diabetes control and lessening their risk of future complications.
Scott Cunningham and the MyDiabetesMyWay team also celebrated on the night winning the Education and Self- Management Award for their work in encouraging diabetes patients to access and hold their ehealth records. This project has already been rolled out across Scotland but is continually improving the data that the patients can access.
