Scottish Cross-Sector Networking Hub set for January launch event at Golden Jubilee

13th January 2025

A new Scottish Cross-Sector Networking Hub, hosted by NHS Research Scotland (NRS) with the aim of addressing healthcare challenges, will be holding its first gathering later this month

Supported by the Cross-Sector Programme of The Academy of Medical Sciences (AMS), the launch event on Friday 24 January will take place at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital.

Under the theme of 'Engaging with Life Sciences Industry and Entrepreneurship in Scotland' it will offer delegates strategic networking opportunities, and in-depth insights into the life sciences industry and entrepreneurship in Scotland.

With attendance encouraged across different sectors and disciplines it will also provide scope to identify and engage with potential collaborators from diverse professional backgrounds.

Speakers include Professor Dame Anna Dominiczak, Chief Scientist (Health) at Scottish Government, and lead for the Hub in Scotland alongside Professor Andrew Morris CBE FRSE PMedSci, President of the Academy of Medical Sciences, and former Chief Scientist for Scotland.

The event will also feature Professor James Naismith FRS FRSE FMedSci, Vice President (Non-Clinical) of the Academy of Medical Sciences, Mark Cook, co-chair of the Life Sciences Industry Leadership Group in Scotland, Steven Drost, Chief Strategy Officer at CodeBase, and many more.

Commenting on the event, Professor Dame Anna Dominiczak said: “This is the first of three events in 2025 from the Scottish Cross Sector Hub, as part of our partnership with the Academy of Medical Sciences. It will underline the key message that heightened connectivity across the sector is vital to our future fortunes.

“We are encouraging attendance across disciplines, and career stages to ensure this is a truly cross-sector event, with maximum networking opportunities. We are certain that these Hub events, and of course the Scotland Hub itself, will be an important link in uniting stakeholders across the country to help solve the major challenges currently facing healthcare.”

Professor James Naismith FRS FRSE FMedSci, Vice President (Non-Clinical) at the Academy of Medical Sciences added: “The launch of the Scottish Cross-Sector Networking Hub, in close partnership with NHS Research Scotland, is an exciting addition to our UK-wide network of regional hubs. By bringing together expertise from academia, industry, healthcare and the public sector, we’re creating more than just networking opportunities — we're building an inclusive ecosystem where diverse perspectives can combine to address Scotland’s healthcare challenges.

“Alongside our established hubs in Wales and Northern Ireland, this Hub will serve as a catalyst for breaking down traditional barriers between sectors to foster the kind of meaningful collaborations that can transform healthcare delivery and, ultimately, improve outcomes for patients.”

More Hub events are expected to follow across 2025, including ‘Precision Medicine in Scotland’, and ‘Data and Digital Approaches to enable and enhance Clinical Research’.
